New England Patriots leader Belichick and New York Giants coach Coughlin were assistants together under two-time Super Bowl winner Bill Parcells at the Giants nearly 20 years ago.

“Tom and I go back to our days with the Giants. Tom was the receivers coach when I coached the secondary the last two years in 1989 and ‘90,” said Belichick, who was also defensive coordinator of the Giants under Parcells.

“We worked together on a daily basis, doing one-on-ones, seven-on-seven, passing drills and those kinds of things.”
